There’s a moment many people describe in my office.
Sometimes it’s sparked by a photo.
Other times, it’s:
jeans that don’t fit the way they used to,
guilt after vacation indulgences,
a weekend that felt “off track,”
or catching your reflection in harsh dressing-room lighting. And quite quickly, the spiral of thoughts begins.
I need to get it together.
I’ve really let myself go.
I need to be stricter with my food choices.
How did this happen?
If you’ve ever experienced this, you are deeply not alone.
One of the things I’ve learned after years of sitting with people as they describe these moments is that the suffering rarely begins with the photo, the jeans, or the dessert itself. Those moments often just activate something that was already quietly waiting underneath.
Recently, a client shared that she had seen a picture of herself and immediately started mentally listing everything she needed to do to “fix” her body.
