Happy Black Friday, friends!
If your inbox is anything like mine, it’s already jammed full of Black Friday ADS. And normally, I’m not eager to add to the noise, especially when groceries cost what they do these days. But it did get me thinking about the handful of foods and supplements I sometimes splurge on because they support my health and add convenience to my week. If I could snag a deal on my favorite “worth it, but cost too much” items, these would be the ones! Here are my top five:
Kachava Whole Food Protein Powder
Price: $69.95 for 15 servings → $4.60 per serving
Black Friday deal $55.96 → $3.73 per serving
When I get asked about my favorite protein powder, KaChava is usually my answer. And, I like it for a few reasons:
• First of all, I like the flavor (my favorites are chocolate and vanilla. (I’ve tried the chai, but it’s a bit sweet for me).
• It’s the only protein powder, included in a smoothie, that actually keeps me full
• Beyond the plant-based protein, it also offers a source of carbohydrate, prebiotic fibers, probiotics, and an array of micronutrients
And, I am NOT a powder + water girl, yuck. I doll mine up with a few things:
• 1 cup soy milk
• ½ cup Greek yogurt or kefir milk
• Frozen banana
• ½ cup frozen berries or cherries
• Spoonful of peanut butter
• And then I top it with my DIY favorite granola (hey look! I just saved you money when you make this vs. buy store-bought!)
To stretch the cost of this one, you can absolutely use one scoop instead of two and round out the nutrition with other ingredients.
P.S. I’m not impressed with the long list of micro-ingredients. You’ll get far more nutritional bang for your buck by eating a few servings of real veggies throughout the day. So don’t buy this thinking you can skip your fruits and veggies! :)

Pesto Fried Rice Bowl: I traveled to Nashville this week to see Stephen Wilson Jr. in concert, it SO good. One of the restaurants we visited served a grain-based bowl like this, and it was delicious!
