Happy holidays, friends.
Today I wanted to share a few updates about our weekly substack!
First and foremost, you may notice that the name has changed. Here & Human Wellness reflects how I try to show up in this space. “Here” speaks to the only moment we ever really have: this one. When I’m caught in the past or worrying about the future, I often feel less aligned and more discontent. It’s not that here is always easy or perfect, but honestly, here is usually okay, more often than not. It’s our thoughts that tend to pull us away from that sense of steadiness and peace.
And then there’s the human part. I’m also a human body living in a human world, navigating everyday challenges just like everyone else. So while I may wander into some big-picture or philosophical territory from time to time, I’m still very much here, figuring out the ordinary, messy, beautiful parts of being human.
That’s where Here & Human Wellness comes from.
As I’ve mentioned in another post —>
I’m also in the midst of selling McDaniel Nutrition Therapy. The practice will continue under the same name and brand, and our wonderful team of dietitians (including me) will remain. Still, creating a slightly different name for this space felt right, especially as I honor this personal and professional transition.
The last update I wanted to share is that I’ll be offering more open (free) posts, especially during this time of year. The holidays can feel financially and emotionally full, and I’d love to make more of this writing accessible right now.
I know what it means to be a paid subscriber, it’s a real investment when there are so many places our money could go. So first and foremost, thank you to my paid subscribers. Your support truly means so much to me. I write these posts with you in mind, and this space exists because of you.
And to my free subscribers: I’m so grateful you’re here. I’m glad to be able to share more openly, and if it ever feels right to step a little closer and offer additional support, I’d be deeply thankful.

🎧 Love You More Podcast:
Episode 73: A Season of Healing, Movement, and Compassion
A personal update on my recovery from pelvic floor sling surgery and what this season has taught me about aging, body changes, and caring for myself with more compassion. From managing attempts to smooth out forehead wrinkles to finding joy in slow morning walks, I open up about the honest, unfiltered moments that have shaped my healing.
This episode reflects on listening to our bodies, moving with intention, letting go of performance pressure, and embracing the wisdom that comes with age. It’s for anyone navigating recovery, midlife changes, or learning to meet their body with patience and grace.
🤍 Sober Sisters in St. Louis:
I’ve been writing honestly about my relationship with alcohol and sleep, what’s changed, what I’m noticing, and what continues to unfold.
I’ll be sharing what’s happening on the pod and our Sober Sisters in STL (new book club!) in case something resonates and you’re curious.

Menu for December 22-26th
Monday
Chicken Parmesan Gnocchi Bake: My family loves chicken parmesan, so I thought I would shake up our traditional recipe with gnocchi instead of putting it over pasta. Pairing the familiar with unfamiliar is always a good way to try new things!
Tuesday
Slow Cooker Cabbage and Sausage: This one immediately felt soothing! It’s simple and hearty and good for a busy week (if you’re in charge of any holiday cooking).
Wednesday
Dumpling Soup: We’re big fans of dumplings and potstickers, but I’ve never actually served them in soup. This felt ideal for our winter cold temps we’re having in STL.
Thursday
Seared Scallops with Garlic Butter: For those celebrating Christmas, Merry Christmas! If you’re thinking about a surf-and-turf-style meal, this is a lovely (and simple) option for the “surf” side of things.
Friday
Healthy Egg Nog Milkshake: I love eggnog just as it is, no “healthifying” required. That said, this version caught my eye, and honestly? I’d happily count it as a festive morning smoothie.
Happy, happy holidays, friends. XO - Jen
