The Protein Health Halo: What You Need to Know
Protein has long been hailed as a crucial nutrient, often draped in a health halo for its numerous benefits. Recently, my interest in protein has surged, especially in understanding its role in the aging process and how much is needed, particularly for women going through menopause.
As dietitians, we often assess protein needs based on body weight, which is also how the recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) were established. However, it's important to note that most RDAs aim to prevent disease rather than optimize health.
Most people need more, but how MUCH more?!
Menu for the Week of August 5th-9th
This week’s menu includes a delicious egg-based dish I’ve enjoyed for lunch this week; a smoothie for those looking to support “regularity,” and my favorite gluten-free starch: creamy polenta with my son’s favorite protein-rich food since he returns home from his 2 week camp tomorrow!
P.S. I also reveal a photo of his “candy camp tab.” I have a feeling he’ll be needing that smoothie. ;)
